Beaches Near Santa Ponsa

Playa de Santa Ponsa draws the bulk of visitors—a wide, gently sloping crescent with calm water and full facilities—but the surrounding coastline splinters into a series of smaller beaches that see far lighter traffic. Cala Fornells sits two kilometers west: a compact, rocky inlet flanked by villas and reached via a steep access road. The seabed drops quickly, making it popular with snorkelers who work the western rocks where sea bream and damselfish congregate. Parking is tight and fills by late morning in summer. Five kilometers northeast, Platja de Peguera stretches longer than Santa Ponsa's main beach and divides into three sections separated by low rock promontories. The central stretch holds most services; the easternmost bay, Torà, stays quieter and attracts families with small children due to shallow entry. Both Peguera sections are public and free, with paid sunbed zones managed by beachfront hotels. The promenade behind the sand runs unbroken for 800 meters and carries a string of cafes that open by 08:00. South along the coast, Cala Portals Vells requires a longer drive—around 15 minutes through pine forest—but delivers three adjacent coves with turquoise water and coarse sand. The largest cove holds a seasonal chiringuito; the smaller northern inlet, Cala Figuera, sees almost no development and no facilities. Access is via a narrow paved road that dead-ends at a small parking area; spaces fill fast on weekends. The bay's seclusion and clarity make it a favorite for freediving. Camp de Mar, six kilometers east, offers a single sheltered beach backed by hotels and a boardwalk. An artificial island sits 50 meters offshore, connected by a wooden footbridge and topped with a restaurant. The beach itself is narrow but well-maintained, with fine sand and gradual depth—suitable for confident swimmers and young children alike. Bus line 103 links Santa Ponsa to Camp de Mar during summer months, running every 45 minutes. The broader Santa Ponsa shoreline remains accessible year-round, with no seasonal closures and no entrance fees at any public beach. Most coastal parking is metered from May through October.
