Club Náutico Santa Ponsa opened its marina in 1975, transforming a quiet fishing anchorage into one of the Balearics' most accessible self-drive boating hubs.
Unlike harbours that require navigation certificates, the marina introduced license-free rental vessels in the late 1990s, allowing visitors to captain five-metre boats through the sheltered bays between Punta de la Caleta and Cala Fornells without formal training. The harbour now moorings over two hundred craft, from traditional llaüts to modern consoles with sundecks, each departing from berths along Via de la Creu.
Boat hire Santa Ponsa operates from a stretch of coastline protected by the Serra de Tramuntana foothills, creating consistently calm conditions between May and October. Winter closures from November through March reflect both reduced demand and the increased swell that renders the bay's western approaches unsafe for unlicensed operators.
